The trance state is a completely natural state, which you are already in about 80% of the day. Remember those segments of time when you can't remember driving your car, yet you got from A to B perfectly safely? Or daydreaming, like staring out of the window while at work or on the bus, washing the dishes, being engrossed with what's on a computer screen or the TV? You are already in trance most of the day, so it is easy to access.


You are always in control. If the therapist left the room, for example, you would return to normal consciousness by yourself. All trance means is 'a narrowing of focus.' This relaxed place is useful to access during hypnotherapy as it can introduce new positive ideas, reframe old unnecessary ones, and help you find your own answers within yourself.


In a therapeutic context hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you, but involves you working together with the therapist, as they guide you to access the answers you seek.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy uses the client’s natural trance states to assist in uncovering the feelings, thoughts and memory patterns that led to the problem, and which continue to maintain it.  It employs techniques to modify these patterns so the client is able to take control of their behaviour, and the client finds their own solutions with skilled assistance.
It does not involve the therapist as a controlling agent, or someone who dictates what is best for the client.


It involves the practitioner guiding you into a relaxing trance state to access any potential other existences, to help clarify present day issues and improve your life.
